Attorney General Herring Weighs In on Ohio Planned Parenthood Case

Virginia’s Attorney General is lending his voice to a Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals case.

Mark Herring is now one of 16 Attorneys General filing amicus briefs in the legal challenge over an Ohio law that would effectively defund Planned Parenthood. The State is appealing a federal judge’s ruling that blocked the law before it took effect.

Earlier this year, Virginia’s legislature passed a similar law that was ultimately vetoed. Herring pointed to the situation in a press statement Friday, “It’s a woman’s fundamental right to make her own reproductive health choices and yet, this law in Ohio and other restrictive measures like it around the country only limit healthcare options and they deny vital services to women and families.”

Attorneys General in Maryland and the District of Columbia have also signed the brief.
