Continuing to work for you

I was raised by a single mom who taught me that when you see a problem you have a responsibility to step up and fix it, and you don’t walk away until the work is done.

Serving as your attorney general has been the honor of my life. We’ve worked together to promote justice, equality, and opportunity for ALL Virginians, to expand and secure the rights of our fellow Virginians, and to show Virginians a new vision for what their Attorney General can do for them.

The progress we’ve made has been historic, but the work isn’t done.

And I’m not the kind of person to walk away unless the job is finished.

That is why I am seeking another term as your attorney general and running for re-election in 2021.

You’ve been with me every step of the way, and I hope I can count on your support as we work to keep the momentum going.

Just a few years ago, Republicans like Ken Cuccinelli used and abused the Attorney General’s Office to block progress, stop gun safety laws, oppose women’s rights, and try to end the Affordable Care Act.

But now, because of the incredible opportunity you have given me, we are leading the fight for a more progressive, just, and equitable Commonwealth.

It started as soon as I got into office, when I took up the fight for marriage equality, and for LGBTQ Virginians, and we won.

Since then we’ve made sure that DREAMers could get an affordable education here in their home state, and that immigrants and new Virginians feel safe and welcome.

We blocked President Trump’s illegal and un-American Muslim ban in the courts, and are leading national efforts to protect your healthcare, your rights, and our environment from the criminal enterprise that has occupied  the White House.

We’ve taken on big pharma companies that profit off the opioid crisis, predatory lenders that abuse Virginians in need, polluters that poison our air and the Chesapeake Bay, and the gun lobby that fought tooth and nail to block even the simplest measures to make our communities safer.

We’ve rolled back Republicans’ demeaning and unconstitutional limits on womens’ reproductive rights, sued to get the ERA added to the Constitution, passed life-saving gun safety laws, decriminalized marijuana, and made real progress to reform and bring accountability to systems of policing and criminal justice that too often treat people differently based on the color of their skin or how much money they have.

And as the COVID-19 pandemic has upended our lives, we’ve worked to protect Virginians by successfully defending lifesaving safety measures more than a dozen times in court, winning orders to keep Virginians utilities connected, and taking steps to help protect Virginiains from evictions.

If you believe in what we’ve accomplished–if you support this fight for justice, equality, and opportunity–then please be a part of this journey by sharing the news on Facebook and Twitter, or by contributing today.

We’ve come so far together, and we have so much to be proud of, but we know our best days are still ahead, and the most important work lies ahead.

I remain grateful for your trust and the support you’ve given me over the years,

Mark
